NT and Nasal Bone Accreditation Processes

The nuchal translucency and nasal bone accreditation processes in the United States are very similar to those offered in the United Kingdom and around the world. The steps are:

1. Attend a one-day theory course and pass the open-book multiple choice-question test at the end of the day. Or, complete the online course which includes the test. For information on courses, please click on the Theory Courses link.

2. Submit 10 still images of nuchal translucency measurements and 5 still images demonstrating the presence of the nasal bone to Naomi Greene (click on Film Submission form link for all contact information). Please complete the Film Submission form and include a copy with each set of submitted images. You may choose to apply for the nasal bone and tricuspid regurgitation (protocol for tricuspid is in the next section) assessment certificates at the same time as the nuchal translucency certificate, or any time after you have completed the NT process. You do not need to attend another course for nasal bone or tricuspid regurgitation accreditations – recent courses contain all necessary information. For those who attended courses several years ago, the Nasal Bone and/or Tricuspid Regurgitation Protocols contains all pertinent information and can be sent to you – just e-mail Naomi Greene and request this.

3. Receive and apply feedback on first set of images. Submit requested number of new images and/or videotape or CD of video clips.

4. Once these steps have been successfully completed and you have agreed to submit yearly re-accreditation files, you will receive a certificate for each process as it is completed and be eligible to receive the risk calculation software (once the NT Accreditation is obtained). Also, your name will be listed on the Fetal Medicine Foundation website of Accredited Sonographers.
